03 / THE SHORT BREAK

THE SPLIT EDIT   /   03

A weekend
worth extending.

Not a race through landmarks. An edited itinerary with space for a late coffee, a favourite gallery and one very good dinner. Choose your rhythm.

THE ITINERARY

Arrive in style

Check into the historic centre or Varoš. Take a sunset walk along the Riva, pause at Matejuška and book a relaxed first dinner.

02SATURDAY / DISCOVERY

The palace, properly

Begin before the streets fill. See the Peristyle, Cathedral and palace lanes. Lunch slowly; spend the afternoon in Varoš and at a Marjan viewpoint. Reserve a memorable evening table.

03SUNDAY / DEPARTURE

One more coffee

Enjoy Pjaca or the fish market, follow the waterfront for a last sea view, then leave without feeling you have only passed through.

WHEN TO GO

Our favourite kind of Split.

March–May and September–November can be excellent for cultural short breaks, with a gentler pace than high summer. Check seasonal openings and ferry schedules if extending to the islands.

THE NOTES

Good to know before you go

Is Split worth a weekend without visiting the islands?+

Absolutely. The historic centre, dining scene, Marjan and the waterfront comfortably reward a focused 48- or 72-hour city break.

Do I need a car for a weekend in Split?+

Not for a city-centre break. The historic core is pedestrian-friendly; plan separate transfers for the airport or trips beyond the city.

When is the best time for a slower Split city break?+

Spring and autumn often offer a calmer rhythm for cultural exploring and dining. Check current opening hours before travelling.
